Letter To The Editor: Proud and Historic Day

Dear Editor:
It was a proud and historic day for Dillon County last Thursday when Salley Huggins McIntyre was sworn in as the first female Family Court Judge for the Fourth Judicial Circuit, and also the first female court judge from Dillon County.
The dignitaries, judges, politicians and friends who spoke on her behalf at her investiture were rightfully generous in their praise for her and her accomplishments. Judge James Lockemy, who presided, added that she was also Dillon’s first and only female mayor.
Surrounded by her family and children, Salley was humble and grateful for the opportunity she had been given to serve in the judicial system. The standing round of applause from the packed audience was a fitting expression of how proud we all felt to have her as one of our own.
As I sat in our beautiful court room during the service, I realized once more how fortunate we are to have such a stately and auspicious court room for such an event. It has been twelve years since the renovation was completed, and now it is our responsibility to preserve it and enhance it for ourselves and for future generations. It would be appropriate and commendable if our County Council would appoint an Advisory Committee of citizens and county officials with the responsibility for the building’s maintenance.
Judge Salley Huggins McIntyre, you have our pride and best wishes for a long and successful judicial career.
Bob Braddy
