SC Teams Eliminated from Dixie Softball World Series Tournaments

With the defeat of Dillon’s Dixie Belles on Tuesday, all of South Carolina’s representatives in the 2011 Dixie Softball World Series tournaments have been eliminated.

In the Dixie Darlings tournament, Hanahan, South Carolina, defeated Texas 15-11 in their opening game on Saturday, but fell to Alabama 12-8 on Sunday morning and 6-5 to Pineville, Louisiana on Sunday evening to be eliminated.

On Tuesday, Holmes County, Florida, eliminated Enterprise, Alabama, 9-6. Summertown, Tennessee walloped West Stanley, North Carolina, 19-1 to send Summertown and Holmes County to the championship game on Wednesday evening. Holmes needed to defeat Tennessee twice to claim the title, but Summertown was more than ready for them with a 10-3 win to win the Darlings World Series.

In the Dixie Angels World Series, Tennessee defeated Hartsville, South Carolina, 2-1 on Monday morning and North Carolina eliminated them 7-2 on Monday night.

South Hill, Virginia, defeated Alabama and Mississippi on Monday in 2-1 and 7-6 games. Also on Monday, Texas defeated Arkansas 19-2; Louisiana defeated North Carolina 3-1; Mississippi defeated Halifax, Virginia 5-0; Florida shut out Georgia 4-0; Georgia shut out Texas 8-0; and Florida defeated Tennessee 1-0.

South Hill remained undefeated early on Tuesday as they eliminated Baldwin County, Georgia, 8-7 and Halifax, Virginia, 14-4, but Tuesday evening saw them fall to Ponchatoula, Louisiana 9-2. Madison Central, Tennessee defeated West Lincoln, North Carolina, 15-11; Louisiana shut out Wesley Chapel, Florida, 2-0; and Florida defeated Tennessee 8-0.

Louisiana and Florida were set to face off for the Dixie Angels World Series Championship on Wednesday. Florida needed to defeat Louisiana twice to earn the title, but Louisiana held them off in a 2-0 shut out to win the series.

In the Ponytails World Series, Dillon defeated their first round opponent, Mississippi, 5-3, but fell to Florida on Sunday in a 1-0 shut out. On Sunday evening, they were eliminated 5-3 by Louisiana.

Tuesday saw shut outs in both Ponytails games. Spring Hill, Florida, defeated Sand Mountain National, Alabama, 11-0 and Burgaw, North Carolina, defeated West Jasper, Mississippi, 6-0.

North Carolina faced Florida on Wednesday for the championship title, winning the series in a close 2-1 game.

In the Debs World Series, Turbeville, South Carolina, won their first game against Georgia 11-1 and defeated Florida 2-1 on Sunday before falling to Louisiana 3-2 on Sunday evening. South Carolina was eliminated on Monday when they fell 4-1 to North Carolina.

On Tuesday, Alexandria, Louisiana, defeated Burgaw, North Carolina, 12-2. Halifax, Virginia, took on Decatur, Alabama, but fell to Alabama 12-6 in nine innings.

Virginia and Louisiana faced off on Wednesday, with the winner facing Alabama in the championship game. Louisiana claimed a 2-1 victory over Virginia, but fell to Alabama 7-4 in the championship game.

Finally, in the Dixie Belles finale, South Hill, Virginia, claimed a 5-3 win over Alexandria American, Louisiana, to win the Belles World Series.
