Bishop England and Christ Church repeated in winning the AD Cup for Class AA and Class A respectively during the 2010-2011 year, but it was Lexington in AAAA and Hilton Head in AAA that were able to capture the title for the first time since the SCAAA began sponsoring the competition. The competition began during the 2002-2003 season and both Bishop England and Christ Church have been the winners each and every year in their respective classifications. Hilton Head has finished as high as second in previous years and Lexington has been able to complete a year in third place.
The 2010-2011 season was the first year that boys and girls lacrosse were included in the competition. 22 different sports are now included in the accumulation of points to determine the most successful athletic program for the year in each classification in the membership of the South Carolina High School League. During the past season there were no schools able to attain points in all sports; a feat that Hilton Head accomplished last year. Lexington totaled 1000 points which included winning three state championships and finishing runner-up twice. Hilton Head won five state championships and finished second three times to achieve 1020 points. Bishop England won its 9th title with 920 points winning three state championships and twice being runners-up. 1010 points were accumulated by Christ Church on its way to its 9th straight title with four state championships and three runners-up. Dorman with 970 points finished second in AAAA, Fort Mill was second with 920 points in AAA, Academic Magnet was second in AA with 700 points, and St. Joseph’s, in its first year of competition and membership in the SCHSL, was second in Class A with 740 points.
The winning schools will be recognized with banners and trophies at their respective classification meetings in the fall. Congratulations to all the schools for a very successful year of competition in our education-based athletic programs.
