Lake View softball coach Chad Huggins resigned his position at Lake View High School on Tuesday, July 12, and has accepted a new position at West Columbus High School in North Carolina.

Effective August 18, Huggins will be teaching social studies at West Columbus and later possibly coaching for the Vikings.

In his time at Lake View, Huggins coached his first game of fast pitch softball and racked up 199 wins for the Wild Gators. He led the Lady Gators to a state championship title in 2007 and finished as state runner-up in 2008, 2010, and 2011. Under Huggins, Lake View averaged 25 wins per season and finished the 2011 season with 29.

Huggins was also named Coach of the Year for the 2011 season.

Coach Huggins said he appreciates the Lake View High School staff and all of his players and fans for all of their tremendous support over the years.

“I will always treasure my incredible memories of Lake View,” he said.

Huggins’ new school is a Class A East school located in Cerro Gordo, North Carolina, and serves the communities of Cerro Gordo, Chadbourn, Evergreen, and Fair Bluff. His father also previously coached at West Columbus.

The West Columbus Lady Vikings softball team has appeared several times in the state fast pitch playoffs in the last decade, but did not make it past the first round. In 2011, they finished with a 4-14 record.
