Local library shelves will soon be graced with copies of Conserve a Legacy, thanks to a generous donation from the Pee Dee Land Trust. The new book is written by Thomas Wyche, a nationally-recognized conservation advocate. Lavishly illustrated with photographs of South Carolina’s nature and wildlife, the book details the conservation efforts made possible by the South Carolina Conservation Bank, several of which are found in the Pee Dee Region.
Within the first four years of the Bank’s funding (2004-2008) the Conservation Bank enabled permanent protection for more than 130,000 acres. Since that time, the work of the Conservation Bank has been severely hindered by the economic downturn. While celebrating the achievements of the Conservation Bank, Conserve a Legacy also demonstrates the importance of continuing to protect land in a state where land development and population have increased rapidly.
The Pee Dee Land Trust, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting local land, has a history of making conservation information available to the public via libraries throughout nine counties.

Copies of Conserve a Legacy were given to each main library of the Pee Dee Region’s 9 county libraries for distribution amongst their branches, complementing books previously donated by the Land Trust, including Your Land is Your Legacy and Preserving Family Lands. In 2005, the Land Trust donated eight other conservation-related books to Pee Dee area libraries.
