Golf Cart Parade Held

By Gerald Powell
This year’s annual Fourth of July golf cart parade was a rousing success as 52 golf cart enthusiasts braved heat and humidity to celebrate the birthday of America.
Everyone reveled in the occasion with horns blowing, whistles, radios and yells. Carts were decorated in a manner that would have made ‘ole Uncle Sam proud. Flags, ribbons, and streamers hid the identity of about every golf cart that entered. Some even decorated their canines for the festivities.
The parade left Harmon Field at about 3:00 and proceeded down 8th Avenue south and rode parallel to Hwy. 9 as they were well received by motorists passing by. Then they made their way down 4th Avenue and encircled First Citizens Bank much to the enjoyment of travelers on Hwy. 301. The parade continued on down 8th Avenue North and McLean Drive and passed Squires Lake. Then back to Washington Street and returned back to Harmon Field. The parade lasted exactly one hour and was warmly received by residents along the way.
Ribbons were presented to the top three most original car decorations.
The golf cart committee would like to thank all participants for making the parade a joyous and memorable event.
A special thank you to Officer Harold Carmichael and the Dillon City Police Department for their assistance for the safety of the celebrators.
