District Four Budget Presented

By Betsy Finklea
The Dillon District Four 2011-2012 budget was presented to the Dillon District Two Board at their final meeting on Monday, June 20th and to the Dillon County Board of Education at their meeting on Tuesday, June 21st.
District Two Business Manager Art McMillan highlighted the following in the District Four budget:
—“a 3.8 percent increase in the employer share of the health insurance.”
—“no change in the classified employee salary schedules.”
—“employees with less than 22 years of experience will receive a step increase.”
—“no change in the teacher salary schedule.”
—“teachers with less than 22 years of experience will receive a step increase ranging from 1.04 to 2.29 percent.”
The budget is based on a projected base student cost of $1,788. It was also noted that they no longer had about $2 million in stimulus money.
McMillan said that only 79 percent of District Four’s budget is salary and fringe benefits compared to 85 percent in most school districts which means more money goes to regular instruction and instructional support.
The budget is funding 345 positions— 273 in Dillon and 72 in Lake View.
Superintendent Ray Rogers said anybody who wanted to work has had the opportunity. He said many hours and many days had been spent working on this budget.
Upon a motion by Dillon District Two board trustee Burt Rogers and a second by trustee Mike McRae, the Dillon District Two Board approved the budget.
The Dillon County Board of Education received the budget as information.
