Vikings Topple Hannah-Pamplico, Whale Branch to Reach District Final

The Latta Vikings were victorious in both rounds of Class A District VI playoffs this weekend, defeating Hannah-Pamplico 10-5 on Friday and Whale Branch 6-2 on Saturday.

On Friday, the Vikings traveled to Pamplico to take on the Raiders and came away with the 10-5 win.

Hannah-Pamplico scored first, getting one run in the first inning, but Latta got four runs in the second to take a 4-1 lead. The Vikings added two more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth, while the Raiders added one and two runs, respectively, for a 9-4 score going into the sixth inning. Latta would add one more run in the sixth, while the Hannah-Pamplico would earn one more run in the seventh for a final score of 10-5.

John Kever Love was the winning pitcher, pitching four and two-thirds innings for four runs, four earned runs, and four walks. He struck out four.

Latta’s Donnell Stanley was the leading hitter, going 2-for-4 in the win.

On Saturday, Latta hosted Whale Branch in the second game of the playoffs, with the Vikings earning a 6-2 win over the Warriors.

Both teams scored two runs in the opening inning, with Latta taking a 3-2 lead with a run in the second. Latta would go on to score three runs in the sixth for the win. The Vikings had six hits in the win, while Whale Branch had four hits and two errors.

Latta’s J.R. Rich was the winning pitcher, going three innings for two hits two earned runs, and one walk, striking out five. J. Delacey took the loss for Whale Branch, pitching all seven innings for six runs, five earned runs, six hits, and four walks, striking out four.

Latta’s leading hitter was River Owens who went 2-for-4 with a double and one run scored.

Latta’s overall record improved to 17-6 heading into Wednesday’s District VI championship game at 5:30 p.m. Latta will host the winner of Monday’s game between Whale Branch and Hannah-Pamplico. Make plans to attend and support our local team!
