Lake View Claims Region Title as Wild Gators Defeat Latta Vikings 11-1

Lake View’s Wild Gators secured a perfect Region 8-A baseball record as they downed Latta 11-1 in five innings on Tuesday in Lake View.

Latta scored their only run in the first inning, with Lake View responding with two runs in the first and one in the second to give them a 3-1 lead. The Wild Gators added five in the third to put them up 8-1 and finished up with one run in the fourth and two in the fifth for the 11-1 victory. Lake View had 11 hits and one error in the win while Latta had four hits and two errors.

Lake View’s Zach Allen was the winning pitcher, going all five innings and allowing four hits and one run, striking out seven.

J.R. Rich was the losing pitcher for Latta with two innings pitched. He allowed six hits, seven runs, four earned runs, and three walks.

Lake View’s leading hitters were Chris Ford, 3-for-3 with three doubles; Hunter Walters, 3-for-3 with two doubles; A.J. Hyatt, 2-for-2 with a double; and Zach Allen, 1-for-1.

Lake View improves to 18-1 overall and finishes with an undefeated 12-0 record in Region 8-A. Latta falls to 15-6 overall and 8-4 in Region 8-A to finish in third place, with Johnsonville finishing in second and Green Sea-Floyds in fourth.

Lake View was scheduled to host Mullins on Wednesday night to wrap up their regular season, while Latta will travel to Mullins tonight at 6:30 for their final regular season game.

District playoffs will begin on April 28th, with Lake View hosting game one against the fourth place team from Region 7-A. Latta will travel to face the Region 7-A runner up.
