Wildcats Win 8-3 Over Foxes

The Dillon Wildcats defeated the Marion Swamp Foxes 8-3 on Tuesday in Dillon.

Dillon was trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth, but J.T. Baxley hit a three-run homer to put Dillon ahead 5-3 by the end of the round.

Jamie Callahan pitched four and two-thirds innings and Kwinton Smith took over in the fifth to pitch two and one-third innings for the save. Callahan allowed only four hits and four walks, striking out nine. Smith gave up three hits and struck out five.

The lead hitters for Dillon included Baxley, 1-for-3 with a three-run home run; Callahan, who went 2-for-4; Smith, 3-for-4; Tarik Wilson, 2-for-3; and Daniel Huggins, 2-for-3 with a double.

Ross White, Chris Washington, and Justin Gause pitched for Marion. The Swamp Foxes earned all three points in the fifth off runs from Gause, Washington, and Justin Elvis.

Dillon’s regular season record improves to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 8-2A.

The Wildcats were next scheduled to host South Florence tonight at 6:30 in a non-region bout. On Friday, they’ll host Aynor in a region matchup at 6:30.
