Local Teams Top Polls

Dillon, Lake View, and Latta all ranked in the top five in the latest South Carolina Softball Coaches poll.

The Lady Wildcats topped the list in Class 2A softball, with Andrew Jackson ranked second, Buford in third, Crescent fourth, and Abbeville fifth.

Dillon is currently 5-1 this season and has a strong group of players returning from last season. They opened region play with an 18-0 win over Mullins in just two and a half innings.

Chesterfield and Aynor tied for sixth place in the poll, with Barnwell in eighth and Central and Pendleton tied for ninth.

In Class A, Johnsonville topped the list with Lake View in second, East Clarendon third, and Latta in fourth place.

Lake View has come out strong so far this season with a 6-1 record to date, while Latta has had ups and downs so far against Class 2A and 3A teams, including an 8-7 loss to last season’s Class A champs, Chesterfield. The Lady Vikings were 4-4 heading into Wednesday’s game against Johnsonville.

St. Joseph was fifth in the poll, followed by Fox Creek, Lewisville, Green Sea-Floyds, Wagener-Salley, and Dixie.

D.W. Daniel topped the Class 3A list, with Hartsville ranked third, and Hill Crest was at the top of the Class 4A poll.
