Claire Baker

FORK-Mrs. Claire Lou Meares Baker, loved as Nanny, went to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 9, 2019.
Mrs. Baker was born on November 18, 1926 in Dillon County, South Carolina. She was a Winthrop graduate and worked for over thirty years as a home economist with the Clemson Extension Service. Mrs. Baker was an active member of her beloved Fork Baptist Church where she held many leadership positions and taught Sunday School for over fifty years. She was a helper of friends, a good listener, and a wealth of knowledge. She had a love of plants, reading, and resting in her favorite chair with her cherished cat, Thomas. One of her favorite past times was her weekly outing with “the girls.”
Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents, James Foster Meares and Lola Moody Meares; by her husband, Norris Fulton Baker; and her daughter, Karen Baker Crosby. It is her family’s hope that her reunion with family and friends in Heaven provides great joy.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her son, Michael Baker (Joan); daughter, Jennifer Baker DeLony (Jim); son, George Baker (Sheri) and her dear friend and adopted daughter, Burgess Horne Johnson. Also surviving her are her grandchildren, Charles Baker, Leah Baker Workman, James Brian DeLony (Kelley), John DeLony (Melissa), Beth Baker, Josh Baker, and Claire O. Baker, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Fork Baptist Church in Fork, South Carolina. Burial followed at Fork Baptist Cemetery.
The family received friends following services in the Fork Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
