Cheryl Lynn Piland Vance

Cheryl Lynn Piland Vance, a resident of Dillon, S.C. passed away suddenly but peacefully on December 25, 2019 at her home at the age of 59 years.

She is a graduate of Cape Fear High School in Fayetteville, N.C. and received her Bachelor of Science degree (Zoology) in 1983 from North Carolina State University. She married Stephen Granville Vance that year and moved to Greenville, N.C. where she worked 4 years as a researcher in the East Carolina University School of Medicine pathology department. The couple next moved to Columbia, S.C. where he completed his residency in Family Medicine and she worked for 3 years as a researcher in the University of South Carolina School of Medicine until the birth of their first child, Stephanie Chayce. She moved to Dillon, S.C. in 1990 as her husband joined Dillon Family Medicine.
She was always an animal lover and a was a frequent horse rider in high school. She enjoyed a property and home in the country with several horses, dogs, cats and chickens that brought much joy to her life. She was considerate for those less fortunate, particularly the smallest of God’s creatures who couldn’t speak. Half of her farm pets are rescues were brought in by her and the other half by her children who learned her ways. Consistent with her personal life, she was very active in the Dillon Co. Humane Society.
Cheryl enjoyed a reputation as a superior cook and homemaker by many. Kindness, humor, tolerance, modesty, dedication, and generosity were her notable traits. She was a beautiful woman with a more beautiful ethos. She was a loving, thoughtful mother and a steadfast dutiful wife.
Cheryl will be honored as she wished, her passing marked quietly. At a yet determined date, her ashes will be returned to the earth by her family. Memorials should be directed to the Dillon Co. Humane Society @ 4160 Glasdrum Dr., Little Rock, SC 29567.
