DCS v. Bobcats
By Craig Brown
The Carolina Academy Lady Bobcats of Lake City defeated the Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors 12-1 Monday at Warrior Field.
The Warriors have plenty of talent this year but were no match for the Bobcats Monday. Carolina Academy has a long tradition of turning out top rated softball teams.
Many Lady Bobcats have finished the season with a trip to the SCISA North South All-Star Game and many have had offers to play at the next level in college.
The Warrior’s defense played well in the first four innings but were unable to connect with the ball getting only one hit in seven innings allowing the Bobcats 16 hits with most of those occurring in the final three innings.
The Warriors made some good plays in the field but as the saying goes they hit them where we weren’t to many times. This game marked the return of Samantha Carpenter who had been absent with a fractured arm for several games. Carpenter is a five year varsity player and a team leader and she has been missed.
The Bobcats took a 1-0 in the first inning adding another run in the second and two more in the third inning for a 4-0 lead. The fourth inning produced no runs holding the Bobcat lead at 4-0.
The Bobcats got hot at the plate adding four additional runs to give them a comfortable 8-0 lead after five innings played. Linsay Branch replaced Madison Bailey on the mound for the Warriors in the sixth inning.
Bailey was not bad on the mound but a pitcher cannot win games by themselves. Bailey needed some help from the Warrior batters. Had this happened the results might have been different or at worst a closer game. The Bobcats went up 10-0 in the top of the sixth inning.
After making it to base on a walk, Samantha Carpenter stole second and then made it to third base on a wild throw. Carpenter came home on a fielder’s choice play for the Warriors only run allowing the game to go to the seventh inning at 10-1.
The Bobcats added two runs in the seventh and kept the Warriors from crossing home plate in their last at bat to take the 12-1 region win. On the mound for the Warriors, Madison Bailey posted three strikeouts, five walked batters, allowed nine hits with eight runs scored in five innings with the loss.
In relief, Lindsay Branch posted two strikeouts, no walked batters, allowed seven hits with four runs scored.
On the mound for the Bobcats, Regan Castles posted six strikeouts, three walked batters, allowed one hit with no runs scored in five innings for the win.
In relief, Jamie Epps posted one strikeout one walked batter, two runners to base on hit by a pitch and gave up one run. At bat for the Warriors Lindsay Branch was 1 for 4 with a single with Hannah Walters and Leah Stephens getting to base on a hit by pitch. Sam Carpenter walked stole second and third base and scored the Warriors lone run.
At bat for the Bobcats, Haley Welch was 4 for 5 with two doubles and a RBI, Mallory Ward was 3 for 3 with a walk and two RBI, Paxton Bish was 3 for 5 with a base on an error and two RBI. In the field for the Warriors Samantha Carpenter made two throw outs at third base from her catcher’s position and played an excellent game despite missing four weeks of play. Caitie Eggert caught several fly balls from her centerfield position
The Warrior infield looked good at times but sometimes hurried the throw to the base resulting in a runner on base. Overall the infield looked okay.
