State Of The Town: Optimism High In Town Of Lake View

By Mayor Matthew Elvington
Fiscal year 2017/2018 has been a year of growth and opportunity for the Town of Lake View. I can’t remember a time in our town’s history where the optimism has been this high.
We were blessed to have announced a new industry coming to the town. This will be the first new industry locating in Lake View in over a decade. We have a great council in place that is committed to making a difference in the community.
This first year for the mayor and council has been all about trying to get processes in place and policies to benefit the citizens of the town.

We have begun the process of rewriting the town ordinances and hope to have them completed in the next six to eight months. We feel that the town’s ordinances have been outdated for quite a while and restrictions needed to be tightened in some areas and relaxed in others.
There is a renewed interest in people getting involved in different committees and working together to make a difference. A new zoning board has been established, training has been completed and they are ready to work. The Events Committee recently implemented its very first Town Easter Egg Hunt and is currently planning a town movie night for this summer. These are just a few of the events that they have been working on in an effort to strengthen and bring our community together. The Beautification Committee is starting to gain traction and have been looking into revitalizing the boulevard, further development of the park, and adding a Veterans Park in the town. I look forward to all of the great things to come from the volunteers on these committees.
With inland port underway in the county our goal is not only appeal to businesses with a great available workforce we are also promoting the town and the people who make it great. Lake View is known for having great people, great schools, and being a great place to raise children. We believe this small tight nit community gives us a great opportunity to appeal to people moving into the area and looking for a place to live.
I have had several productive meetings with our House member Jackie Hayes, our Senator Greg Hembree, and US House member Tom Rice and his directors. We are all excited about the opportunities for the town and the things we’re collectively working on for community. I believe when committed and honest people work in unity, great things can happen. I can only imagine what could be accomplished if we didn’t have people adamantly working against the betterment of our community.
I’m proud to serve the people of Lake View, and the community which has served me. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings.
The analogy I used last year was “we’re only a spark way” has proven evident in the progress made in the past few months.
This year that spark has turned into a glowing amber and it’s now time for our community to protect and fan the flame to ensure that our great community continues to grow and serve the citizens who live here.
