DCS Lady Warriors Win Close One

The Dillon Christian School Warriors girls varsity basketball team won a close one 46-41 over Trinity Byrnes on Tuesday, January 9, in Dillon.
At halftime, the teams found themselves knotted at 22 each.
Sam Carpenter put the Warriors ahead by 2 points in the opening moments of the second half on an assist by Lizzie Outlar only to find themselves in a back-and-forth battle against Trinity Byrnes as #15 for Trinity Byrnes put her team on top with a 3-point basket. #2 for Trinity Byrnes added another 2-point basket before the Warriors’ Anna Thompson sank one for 2 points to close the gap. Lizzie Outlar put Dillon up by one with a 2-point basket to close the third period of play 33-32.
In the opening moments of the last period of play, #2 for Trinity Byrnes sank 2 free throws to once again give her team a 1-point lead. #2 then sank one for 2 points to increase the lead. However, Anna Thompson hit a basket for 2 points to close the gap again in the back-and-forth battle. #15 for Trinity Byrnes laid one in for 2 points to once again take a 38-37 lead. The Warriors’ Anna Thompson sank a free throw to tie the game at 38. #3 for Trinity Byrnes hit a basket for 2 to take a 39-38 lead.
With 2:35 remaining in the game, Dillon took a 40-39 lead and never relinquished the lead again. Sara Freman sank a free throw for Dillon to take a 41-39 lead with 2:08 remaining. #4 for Trinity Byrnes connected on 1 of 2 free throws to narrow Dillon’s lead to only 1 point with 1:41 remaining. Dillon’s Sam Carpenter laid 1 in for 2 with 1:24 remaining to give Dillon a 3-point lead. The Warriors’ Anna Thompson hit 1 for 2 with 1:03 remaining to widen Dillon’s lead to 5. The Warriors’ last point of the game came on a free throw by Lizzie Outlar. Trinity Byrnes’ #3 sank a free throw to make the final score 46-41 for a Warriors’ win.
The Dillon Christian School Warriors will host Christian Academy on Friday, January 12.
