Evelyn Rebecca Schafer Hechtkopf

Evelyn Rebecca Schafer Hechtkopf of Dillon, SC passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at McLeod Medical Center in Florence, SC at the age of 94.
Cooper Funeral Home, 209 Black Branch Road, Dillon, SC is assisting the family. Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Florence Jewish Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 6th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Visitation at other times at the family residence, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday from noon until 10:00 P.M., and Saturday from 7:00-10:00 at 1113 North 24th Avenue, Dillon.
Born in Little Rock, SC Evelyn was a graduate of Dillon High School and she also graduated summa cum laude from the University of South Carolina.
Evelyn was a war bride, having married Fabian Hechtkopf the love of her life. Evelyn traveled the world and loved to share stories of their life. They settled in New York with their three son, Lance, Jared, and Jed.
After Fabian’s passing, Evelyn returned to Dillon and continued her sales career with her family at pedro’s South of the Border.
Evelyn was the daughter of the late Samuel Schafer and Betty Baker Schafer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sons, Lance and Jared, as well as her brothers, Alan H. Schafer, Joseph “Joe” Melvin Schafer, Ray Schafer, and August Charles Schafer.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Jed Hechtkopf, daughter-in-law, Bonnie Hechtkopft of Florida; grandson, Bram (Lara) Hechtkopf and their two children of Florida, and Quinn (Johanna) and their daughter of New York. She is also survived by her nephews: Richard H. Schafer (Gail), William H. Schafer (Laura), and Fredrick H. Schafer (Connie), Barry Schafer, Robin Schafer (Davy) Greg Miller (Regis) and nieces; the Honorable Diane Goodstein (Arnold) and Bonnie Botwick.
Evelyn was surrounded by many friends who provided love and support during this difficult time. There are too many to name but special thanks to Susanne Pelt and Virginia Johnson, Robin, and Davy Schafer, and Richard and Ryan Schafer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Jared S. Hechtkopf Community Food Bank, and mailed to St. Petersburg Free Clinic, 863 3rd Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL 33701.
