Yellow Jessamine Garden Club Visits The Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden

The Yellow Jessamine Garden Club visited The Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden on Saturday, May 6, 2017. Seven members attended.
The Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden in located in Bishopville, SC. Pearl Fryar is a man of very artistic and creative ability. The Garden, which use to be a corn field, has now evolved into a world renowned work of art. Pearl takes shrubbery and plants; adds his special touch and masterpieces are formed.
His works began in the early 1980s. With no previous topiary experience, he began working on his garden. In 1985, the Bishopville Iris Garden Club name his yard, Yard of the Month.
By the 1990s, he gained the national attention of several newspapers and TV shows. He also has a documentary entitled, A Man Named Pearl.
His garden includes sailing ship junipers, the fishbone tree, sculptures and fountains and many other works of art.
Mr. Pearl Fryar also made an appearance and gave some information on the garden as we asked questions.
He stated that he does not use any fertilizers in his garden. He allows Mother Nature to supply all the nutrients he needs. (GCSC objective: Conservation & Horticulture) His website can be visited www.pearlfryar.com.
Next month, The Yellow Jessamine Garden Club will observe National Garden Club Week as proclaimed by the State of South Carolina Governor’s Proclamation on June 4-10, 2017.
This encourages all South Carolinians to recognize gardeners for the contributions of impacting communities.
The Yellow Jessamine Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., South Atlantic Region, The Garden Club of South Carolina, Inc., and the Coastal District of South Carolina.
