Lady Wildcats Claim Narrow Victory Over May River

The Dillon Lady Wildcats edged the May West Sharks 5-4 in the Class 3A District VIII championship varsity softball game played in Dillon on Wednesday, May 3.
May West took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning off a triple by #99 Taylor Gleason.
However, Dillon was able to pick up 2 runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead off a homerun by Brittany Miller and a walk picked up by Taylor Blackmon, a single by Tori Grimsley, a sacrifice bunt by Ashley Phillips, and a sacrifice bunt by Johnna Rogers.
Dillon added 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as A’Doshia Graves walked, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, a walk to Skyler McCoy, and a fielder’s choice by Brittany Miller.
However, May West fought back and picked up 3 runs in the top of the sixth inning on a single by #25, a walk by #11 Olivia Perkins, a single by #15 to load the bases, a fielder’s choice by #14 Kaleigh Bradley to score a run, and a single by #17 that scored 2 runs. Dillon managed 6 hits while May West connected for 5.
Dillon’s Brittany Miller picked up 2 rbi in the game while Taylor Blackmon picked up 1. Ashley Phillips was perfect at the plate with a double and a single in 2 trips.
The Lady Wildcats’ Tori Grimsley pitched the complete game and struck out 2 in the win.
Dillon is 19-4 for the season.
Dillon hosted the 3A lower state playoff game on Friday, May 5, at 6:30 p.m.
