Dr. Terrell A. Crowley, Charlotte, NC, beloved husband, brother and friend, died from pulmonary complications at home on April 2, 2017. He was born September 8, 1930, in Dillon County, South Carolina, to the late Monroe and Hazel Crowley.
Terrell started his college education at Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland, Washington. College was interrupted by two years of military service during the Korean War. Terrell proudly served in the Army Infantry and was the recipient of the Silver Star, Purple Heart and Combat Infantry badge.
After completion of his military duty, he returned to his studies and obtained a BS from Fresno State University. He went on to obtain a Masters and Ph.D at the University of Arizona in Tucson AZ.
Terrell’s career was in the pharmaceutical industry where he worked as a research biochemist. He retired from Abbott Laboratories, North Chicago in 1982 and he and his wife moved to Charlotte where most of his siblings lived. After 16 years, he and his wife moved to Bonita Springs, FL for 9 years, before returning to Charlotte. While in Bonita Springs, Terrell discovered his love for wood carving. He especially enjoyed carving different and exotic woods. A member of both the Bonita Springs, FL and Charlotte Woodcarvers Clubs, he has been recognized throughout the southeast with his sculptures and received awards in major juried shows in Florida, Tennessee, Maryland and North Carolina.
Terrell is survived by his cherished and devoted wife of 51 years, Rosalie Essich Crowley. He is also survived by his sisters Jean Taylor (Burns), Muriel Harris and Norma Branch (Ray) and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by his sister Ruby Leeson and a niece and a nephew. He is remembered as a kind, loving husband and brother, dedicated conservative and proud veteran.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Brenda Newman officiating at Heritage Funeral Home – Weddington Chapel, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC with the family receiving visitors for the hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
