Latta Vikings
The Latta Vikings boys varsity basketball team jumped off to an early 7-2 lead in the first period against the Kingstree Jaguars, the number 2 team in the region, before losing a hard-fought battle 57-49 in Latta on Wednesday, February 8.
Latta held a 4-point lead, 12-8, after the first period of play. Latta’s lead was cut to only 3 points, 24-21, at halftime to a team who solidly defeated the Vikings earlier in the year in Kingstree. The Vikings found themselves in a tough battle in the third period when the score was knotted at 32 with 3:28 remaining. After 3 periods of play, Kingstree had taken a 5-point lead. In the fourth period of play, Latta was attempting to catch Kingstree. Numerous fouls on both sides extended the game. However, Latta came out on the short end of the stick while unable to convert free throws. Kingstree committed 23 fouls while Latta committed 17.
Deonte Stanley connected for 15 points in the loss for the Vikings while Davonta Porter hit for 12. Damien Braddy garnered 6 points while Kendall Moultrie got 5 points. Siethe Rogers picked up 3 points, and Darius McRae, Timothy Jones, and Raphael Berry each got 2 points for Latta.
Jordan Cantey connected for 15 points to lead the Jaguars in scoring while Direlle McGee hit for 11 points. Andre Price garnered 9 points, and Quayon Roger picked up 8 points. C. Washington hit for 6 points. Quinte Alston and  Koby Fulton each got 2 points in the win.

Latta Lady Vikings
In a team effort the Latta Lady Vikings handed the Kingstree Jaguars a 57-38 loss in a varsity basketball game played in Latta on Wednesday, February 8.
The Latta Vikings led 16-9 after the first period. By halftime, the Latta lead was 24 points, 37-13. After 3 periods of play the Vikings led 47-24.
Moya McDuffie led the Latta Lady Vikings in scoring with 17 points while Riana Green added 13. Keosha James connected for 9, and Arica Gandy hit for 8 points. DaKiasha garnered 6 points, and Rayne Nolan hit for 4 for the Vikings.
The Latta Vikings, under the direction of Coach Curtis Jackson, closed out the season with a 6-6 record in the conference and an overall record of 7-11. The Vikings are a young team that will lose only one senior this year, and only one junior is on the team.
Between the girls and boys game the seniors for Latta’s teams were recognized. Number 25, Joanne Bethea was recognized. Joanne’s parents are Fitzhugh and Sarita Bethea.

DCS Warriors
Ayshia Scott hit for 17 points to lead the Trinity-Byrnes Titans to a 4-point victory 56-52 over Dillon Christian School Warriors on Tuesday, February 7, in girls varsity basketball action played at Florence.
The Dillon Christian School Warriors trailed by 5 points 12-7 after the first period. At halftime the Titans held a 7-point lead, 29-22 over the Warriors.
Taylor Buchanan added 14 points while Alex Goodson connected for 13 points for the Titans. Francis garnered 6 points, and B. Goodson hit for 4 points. Johnston also added 2 points for the Titans.

Lady Cats
Kyia Bell scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Dillon Lady Wildcats to a 73-21 victory over Waccamaw in a Region 6-3A varsity basketball game played in Dillon on Wednesday, February 8.
Dillon led by 15 points after the first quarter, 18-3. At halftime, the Lady Wildcats was ahead 37-13. After 3 periods of play Dillon was up by 36 points, 55-19.
Khamele Manning and Tazia Gordon each connected for 10 points in the win for the Wildcats. Ja’Neequah  McCrimmon connected for 7. Chyna Pouncy garnered 6 points. Shimya Sowells hit for 5 points. Adoshia Graves had 4 points, Ny’Ashia Campbell and Armani Harley each had 3 points, and Ja’Rhonda  McCrimmon connected for 2 points.
Samirah Murray hit for 12 points for Waccamaw while Alexandria Jaouchlet hit for 4. Jabraya Brown picked up 3 points, and Kaleigh Rhode got 2 points.
The Dillon Lady Wildcats played Loris at Aynor on Friday, February 10, for the Region 6-3A title.

Lake View
Kobe Praylow scored a game-high 36 points to lead the Hannah-Pamplico Raiders to a 71-50 victory over the Lake View Wild Gators in varsity basketball action played in Pamplico on Thursday, February 9.
Hannah-Pamplico held a 2-point lead, 12-10,  after the first period of play. At halftime Lake View was up by 1 point, 26-25. The Lake View Wild Gators were not able to overcome the third period of play when they were outscored 22-10.

Kyia Bell had a game-high 23 points to lead the Dillon Lady Wildcats to a 65-44 victory over Loris in a varsity basketball game played Friday as Dillon was crowned the Region 6AAA champs.
Dillon led by 11 points, 17-6, after the first period of play. At halftime Dillon had a 26-point lead, 43-17. After 3 periods of play the Lady Wildcats lead was cut to 23 points.

Lady Cats
Khamele Manning scored 12 points in the victory for the Lady ‘Cats, and Armani Harley contributed 10 points. Ny’Asia Campbell hit for 7 points, and Shimya Sowells connected for 4 points. Kendra McLeod added another 3 points to the tally for the Lady Wildcats, and Tazia Gordon and Ja’Rhonda McCrimmon each got 2 points. Chyna Pouncy and Adosha Graves each added another point in the win.
Ikela Green pumped in 22 points for the Loris Lions, and Neandra Gause hit for 5 points. Ari Yana Hayes connected for 3 points for the Lions, and Nyshai Jackson, Emma Ann Lay, Tasia Williams, and Ty’Anna Gause each hit for 2 points in the loss.
