Mr. Arthur L. Quick, Sr., 96, passed away, after a short illness, peacefully at his home on January 15, 2017, surrounded by family and friends.
Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Main Street United Methodist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Home.
Mr. Quick was a lifelong member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Dillon. He was a WWII veteran and served as Chief Deputy with the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office until his retirement in 1986.
Born to Fred and Ruth Quick on November 4, 1920, Mr. Quick attended Dillon High School where he was the Captain of the football team during his high school years. After high school, Mr. Quick joined the National Guard, SC 263rd Company B Coast Artillery, Fort Moultrie, Charleston, SC. Having been honorably discharged from the National Guard, Mr. Quick was on his way home when he was called back to active duty because Pearl Harbor had been bombed. He continued his service with the U. S. Army until the end of World War II and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was again honorably discharged on December 1, 1946.
After his discharge from the Army, he initially found employment selling auto parts and later gained employment with the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Dixon Lee. At that time, there were only three deputies and they had to drive their personal vehicles. Mr. Quick continued to work for the sheriff’s office until his retirement 38 years later, where he had reached the rank of Chief Deputy.
Mr. Quick was a charter member of the Dillon County Fire Department and was Chief for over 20 years. He retired as the fire chief to help take care of his wife, whose health was failing. He was widowed April 17, 2006.
Survivors are his son, Arthur L. Quick, Jr. (Lynne), daughter, Debbie Quick Rogers (Ray) of Dillon, Sister Bobbie Floyd (Ken) of Fairmont, NC, Grandsons Douglas Ray (Tray) Rogers, III of Dillon and Arthur (Art) L. Quick, III (Sierra) of Lake View, and Great Granddaughter Evelyn Quick; nephew, Jeff (Sherry) Floyd of Fairmont, NC.
Mr. Quick was predeceased by his mother and father, Fred & Ruth Quick; wife, Lois Floyd Quick; nephew, Kenneth Floyd, Jr.
