The Latta Vikings’ Macy Hyatt signed to play softball with Presbyterian College on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in Latta.
Although Macy is dedicated to softball she also plays volleyball.
While pursuing her softball career Macy has come in contact with many coaches.  However, Coach Michael Rogers and Coach Tracy Owens stand out the most.  During the past few years these two coaches have gone above and beyond to support and encourage her with the confidence she needed. Both were always there for her on and off the field. They never once let her forget that there was a life outside of the softball fields.
Although Macy received other others, she will feel right at home at Presbyterian College in Clinton where she will major in Biology. Clinton is a small community similar to Latta. Macy loves the atmosphere of a small community.  At Presbyterian College she have that feeling and be able to compete at a Division 1 level.
Macy has many fond memories of her softball career but one in particular stands out! While only in the seventh grade she blocked the go-ahead run from scoring at home plate during the State Championship game! Not only is Macy a great catcher she is also can play the hot corner, third base.
Macy will carry her work ethic in the classroom and on the field with her from her high school to the college level.
Macy received several awards while playing softball such as 2012-2016 All Region, 2012-2016 HSSR All-State, 2014 and 2016 CAWS All-State, and 2014 and 2016 Region 8A Player of the Year. After all these awards and accolades she still remains “down to earth”.
Macy enjoys spending time with her family and friends when she is not on the field.
Last season Macy had 33 rbi, 2 homeruns, possessed a .538 batting average, had .982 fielding percentage, and caught 11 runners attempting to steal.
Jimmy and Valeria Hyatt exclaimed “This has been a dream of Macy’s for many years. We are extremely proud and excited for her. She has worked very hard and made many sacrifices for this to become a reality.”
Stephanie Ard had this to say about Macy. “Macy is one of the most hard working, determined individuals I’ve ever known. Her work ethic is what has gotten her to the point she is now. She’s been pushing herself since she was a young girl, and it has paid off.  She loves softball and competition, and it’s evident every time she takes the field for practice or a game. Macy’s teammates know that she is not a very vocal player all the time, but she leads by example. She is respected by her teammates and they trust her.  I am not looking forward to her graduation because she has been an integral part of Latta softball since she was in the seventh grade, and we will miss her, but I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for her.”
Athletic director Aaron Miles stated, “I am excited for Macy and glad to see all her hard work on the softball field and in the classroom pay off. She has set a great example for our other student athletes who aspire to play college ball.”
