Joan Marie Welch Stubbs

Joan Marie Welch Stubbs died April 16, 2016 at McLeod Regional Medical Center of the Pee Dee. She was born on January 3, 1926 in New York City, NY, the daughter of the late Marie Balmes Welch and Harry Walter Welch.
She graduated from New York City Public Schools and from Wagner College with a degree in Nursing.  Upon graduation she was on staff at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital where she met the love of her life.
In 1949 she was married to Raymond David Stubbs and moved to Dillon, SC in 1955 where she continued her nursing career.  She was a faithful member of St. Louis Roman Catholic Church where she served as lector for many years.  She enjoyed playing bridge and was active in numerous clubs.  She loved living in the South especially swimming and gardening.  Joan enjoyed having lunch with the “St. Louis Lunch Bunch” for many years.
She was predeceased in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Raymond David Stubbs.  Mrs. Stubbs is survived by her son, Raymond David Stubbs (fiancé, Tyler Ritter) of Greensboro, NC; daughters, Carolyn Stubbs Pulos (Charles) of Columbia, SC and Jeanne Stubbs McLaurin (David) of Dillon, SC; and grandsons, David Duncan McLaurin, Jr., John Daniel McLaurin and Aidan Richmond Stubbs.  
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2016 at St. Louis Roman Catholic Church with interment in Greenlawn Cemetery with the Father Jesuprathap Narichetti officiating.  The family  received friends in the Parish Hall from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.  Kannaday Funeral Home is assisting the family in Dillon, SC.
