William Chester “Bill” Lee

This is my last column.
HAMER, S.C.—William Chester Lee, 87, son of Effridge P. and Katie Edna Elkins Lee, died Sunday, January 3, 2016, at McLeod Medical Center Dillon. One of nine children (Clara, Laura Belle, Neil, Jack, Roy, Bill, Sikes, Betty Jean and Frank), he was a retired teacher, a professional photographer, community volunteer, Dillon Herald columnist, church officer and pianist and one who served in other leadership roles.
He was a recipient of the Dillon County Chamber of Commerce Dolph Braddy Volunteer of the Year Award and was the first non-hospital employee (volunteer) to be given the McLeod Medical Center Dillon Merit Service Award. He served as a Hospice volunteer, as a member of the Hospital Advisory Board, the Hospital Auxiliary and the McLeod Foundation. He established student scholarships at the Dillon Christian School, Appalachian State University, McLeod Medical Center Dillon and was a charter member of the Dr. F.H. McLeod Legacy Society. He was a United States Army veteran.
A memorial service will be held at Kentyre Presbyterian Church (USA) at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2016. Interment will be private.
