Photo Gallery: Latta Softball State Series

Latta’s Lady Vikings defeated the Dixie Hornets for the 2015 Class A State Championship in the state series on Monday, May 18; Wednesday, May 20; and Friday, May 22.

In game one on Monday, Latta shut out Dixie 6-0 in six and a half innings. Dori Webster got the win, pitching seven innings and allowing just two hits, one walk, and two hit by pitch, striking out five.

At bat, Kaleigh Caulder went 2-for-3 with two runs, one walk, and a stolen base; Kyra Grant went 1-for-3 with one run and a sacrifice bunt; Madison Owens went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two home runs; Mayc Hyatt went 1-for-4; Camryn Sawyer went 3-for-3; Dori Webster went 1-for-3 with one RBI; Genesis Anderson went 1-for-3 with a fielder’s choice; Maddy Long reached on an error; and Kurstin Hopkins had a fielder’s choice.

On Wednesday, May 20, Dixie edged Latta 4-3 in the final inning. Latta scored their first run in the top of the first inning, but Dixie picked up three runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead. Latta tied things with two runs in the fourth, but the Hornets picked up one run in the bottom of the sixth and held off the Vikings in the top of the seventh to claim the win.

Webster took the loss, pitching six innings for nine hits, four runs, one earned run, two walks, one hit by pitch, and one home run.

At bat, Caulder went 2-for-4 with a double and one run; Grant went 2-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt; Owens drew four walks with a stolen base; Hyatt had one RBI and a fielders choice; Sawyer went 1-for-4 with a triple, one run, and a fielders choice; Webster went 1-for-3 with one RBI and a fielder’s choice; Anderson reached on an error and made a sacrifice bunt; Long made a sacrifice bunt; Hopkins made a sacrifice bunt with one RBI; and D’Anna Tanner scored one run.

On Friday, May 22, the Vikings claimed the state title with a 16-6 win over Dixie. The Hornets scored two runs each in the first, second, and fourth innings. Latta scored one run in the bottom of the first and five in the third before tying the game 6-6 with one run in the bottom of the fourth. Latta added five runs in the bottom of the fifth and four in the sixth to seal the win.

Webster got the win on the mound, pitching six innings for six hits, six runs, five earned runs, two home runs, and two outs.

At bat, Owens went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI, one walk, and two runs scored; Grant went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI, one walk, three runs, and a stolen base; Hyatt went 3-for-5 with a double and reached on an error; Caulder went 4-for-4 with three RBI, three runs, a sacrifice bunt, and a stolen base; Sawyer went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and three runs and reached twice on an error; Webster went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one walk, and also reached on an error; Anderson went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI, and one run; Long went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI, and a fielder’s choice; Hopkins went 1-for-4 with one run; and Tanner scored three runs with a stolen base.
