On Monday, May 18, the Latta Vikings fell 9-3 to the Lewisville Lions in game one of the 2015 Class A state championship baseball series.
Lewisville scored first with one run in the top of the second and two in the third, and Latta got on the board in the bottom of the third to trail 3-1. The Lions picked up four runs in the top of the fourth, and the Vikings mustered two in the bottom to trail 7-3. Lewisville added two runs in the fifth for the 9-3 lead, and neither team could score through the remaining innings to allow the Lions to retain the win.
Latta had six hits and five errors in the loss. Lewisville had 10 hits and one error.
For the Vikings, John Kever Love took the loss, pitching four innings with seven hits, nine runs, three earned runs, two hit by pitch, and one walk. Dalton Lane pitched three innings for Latta, giving up three hits and one hit by pitch with two outs.
At bat for Latta, Eric McGirt went 1-for-2 with two RBI and two sacrifice flies; Cledus Williams made a sacrifice bunt and drew two walks; Jackson Williams reached on a hit by pitch; John Kever Love went 2-for-4 with a double; Caleb Mishue went 2-for-2 with one run; Dalton Lane drew a walk; McLeod Carmichael went 1-for-3 with one run; and Brady Hatchell reached on an error and drew two walks to pick up one RBI and one run.
