New State Baseball and Softball Champs Crowned

The 2015 baseball and softball seasons are at an end, and new state champions have been crowned.

In Class A, the Latta Vikings took home both state titles as the Latta baseball team earned their first state title since 1966 and the Latta girls earned their first ever state softball championship.

The Latta boys fell 9-3 to Lewisville on Monday in game one of the state series, but earned a 6-2 win in game two on Wednesday and defeated the Lions 6-4 on Friday to claim the title.

In softball action, the Lady Vikings shut out Dixie 6-0 in game one but the Lady Hornets rallied for a 4-3 win in game two on Wednesday. But the Vikings earned a 16-6 win on Friday to claim the title.

In Class 2A, Dillon came up short against the Ninety Six Wildcats who earned 8-2 and 6-3 wins in the series to claim the Class 2A baseball title.

In softball, Aynor’s Lady Blue Jackets fell 4-3 to Andrew Jackson in game one, but earned 8-5 and 8-7 wins to take the series and the title.

In 3A, Union County swept Hartsville in the series, earning 10-0 and 10-7 wins to claim the state softball title, while Belton-Honea Path swept Hartsville for the state baseball title, earning 4-0 and 3-2 wins over the Red Foxes.

Class 4A softball action saw Summerville defeat Clover 3-1 in the game one before the Lady Blue Eagles rallied 4-1 and 3-1 to claim the title.

In 4A baseball, Wando took the championship with 5-1 and 6-4 wins over J.L. Mann.
