Joseph Amos Allen

Joseph Amos Allen, 93, died on May 9, 2015 at McLeod Medical Center in Dillon.
The son of the late Joseph B. Allen and Mary Ruth Hucks Allen, he was born in 1922 in Horry County.  He joined the US Army in 1942 and served in the European Theater of Operations during World War II, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the Central Europe Campaign.  He was a retired truck driver, but is best remembered for operating a small lawn-care service for 26 years. He attended New Vision Church of God.  His greatest joy in life was being a Christian.  He was saved in 1968, and worked tirelessly to help others.  He was a devoted Christian, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend.  He will be missed, but his godly example will live on for years to come.
He is survived by his children, Frances Allen Hernandez; Kenneth Allen; and Michael (Katherine) Allen, all of Dillon; by his two grandchildren, Leslie Hernandez of Dillon; and Brandon (Amber) Allen of York; sister, Annette Allen Richardson of Aynor; and brother Wesley Allen of Aynor.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Frances Wilkes Allen.
Services will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 12 in Cooper Funeral Home Chapel.  Visitation will be held 3:00-4:00 p.m. prior to the service.  Interment with military honors will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 13 at the Florence National Cemetery.
