The Lady Warriors traveled to Mullins on Friday for a region matchup with the Pee Dee Academy Lady Eagles. The Eagles handed the Warriors a 19-4 loss in four innings.
The Warriors as a team played flat in this game but four players did have a good game. Madison King returned to play, batting .666 and making some great catches in centerfield. Ansley Hamer also played well in left field, as did Samantha Carpenter at shortstop, and Erin Hamer ended the game batting 2-for-2 with some good glove at second base.
Pee Dee jumped out to a 9-0 first inning lead and led 10-2 after two. The Eagles moved ahead 14-2 in the third inning. The Warriors added two runs in the top of the fourth but the Eagles closed the game by adding five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for the 19-4 win.
The Eagle field has traditionally been a bad luck field for the Warriors, resulting in injuries. This time, Leah Stephens fell to the curse, injuring her knee and leaving the game. Even Hannah Walters had to leave the game due to a nagging throwing arm injury.
Jamie Carpenter took the loss on the mound for the Warriors with Haley Scott getting the win for the Eagles.
At bat for the Warriors, Erin Hamer was 2-for-2; Madison King was 2-for-3; Samantha Carpenter was 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI; Emilie Martin was 1-for-2; and Madison Moody was 1-for-1.
At bat for the Eagles, Lexie Drose was 4-for-4 with one RBI; Kathrine White was 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI; Meg Martin was 2-for-3 with a double; Holdon Gasque was 1-for-2 with two RBI; Lilly Caulder was 1-for-2 with one RBI; Page Ethridge was 1-for-2 with one RBI; Kayley Caulder was 1-for-2 with two RBI; and Summer Calhoun was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
The Warriors are in Florence today with a 5:00 p.m. game with Florence Christian School.
