Vikings Earn 11-0 Win Over Trojans

Caleb Mishue held the Trojans to just one hit as the Latta Vikings defeated Green Sea-Floyds 11-0 on Tuesday night on the road.

Latta picked up their first run in the top of the first as Cledus Williams reached on a walk, stole second, and advanced on a single from John Kever Love to score for a 1-0 lead. Latta picked up three runs in the second with Brady Hatchell and Eric McGirt each hitting doubles and Williams reaching on a hit by pitch. Jackson Williams and Love each singled to bring in the runners for a 4-0 lead.

Latta picked up three more runners in the fourth with McGirt getting a triple, Cledus Williams advancing on a walk and a stolen base, and Jackson Williams hitting a double to score both runners. Williams advanced on a grounder from Love and scored on a wild pitch for a 7-0 lead.

The Vikings capped the win with four runs in the fifth inning with McLeod Carmichael drawing a walk, Hatchell reaching on an error, McGirt reaching on a single, and Cledus Williams drawing a walk. Jackson Williams was hit by a pitch, and Austin Miller singled to score the last of the runners.

Caleb Mishue earned the win on the mound, pitching five innings for one hit, one walk, and five outs. Green Sea’s Graham took the loss, pitching one inning for one hit, one run, one earned run, one walk, one wild pitch, one hit by pitch, and two outs. Morrow pitched 3.1 innings for eight hits, seven runs, seven earned runs, four walks, one hit by pitch, one wild pitch, and two walks. Green pitched two-thirds of an inning for one hit, three runs, one earned run, one walk, one wild pitch, and one out.

At bat, McGirt went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, three RBI, and three runs scored; Jackson Williams went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and one run; Love went 2-for-4 with two RBI; Dalton Lane went 1-for-3; Hatchell went 1-for-3 with a double and two runs; Miller went 1-for-4 with one RBI; Carmichael scored one run; Cledus Williams drew three walks; and Jonathan Ray scored four runs with two stolen bases.

At bat for Green Sea, Milligan went 1-for-2. The Trojans had just one hit and two errors in the effort.

Latta is now 7-3-3 overall and 4-0 in Region 8-A.

The Vikings were scheduled to host Lake View on Wednesday and will be at Lake View on Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. Make plans to attend to see some of the best baseball action in the state!
