Lady Warriors Take Down Trinity-Byrnes

Dillon Christian’s Lady Warriors hosted the Lady Titans of Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate on Friday at Warrior field in a double header.

The Warriors trailed early in both games and posted come from behind wins of 4-3 in game one and 8-5 in game two.

In game one, the Titans took a 2-1 lead after one inning played. The Titans moved out 3-1 in the top of the fourth but the Warriors added two runs in the bottom of the inning to even the score at 3-3. The fifth inning had both teams go three up and out to send the game into extra innings.

Double headers require games be limited to five innings unless tied at the end of five. The last batter of the fifth inning is moved to second to start the sixth, and Elizabeth Roach went to second base for the Titans. Roach tried to steal third base but Warrior catcher Emily Martin fired the ball to Leah Stephens at third base for the tag out. The Warriors put the next two batters out to go to bat.

The Warriors sent Samantha Carpenter to second base. Carpenter stole third base with Sara Bass at bat. Bass laid down a perfect bunt to bring Carpenter home for the 4-3 win.

On the mound for the Titans, Berkley Mezzanotte posted three strikeouts, had four walked batters and one batter to base on a hit by a pitch, and gave up three hits with four runs scored for the loss.

On the Mound for the Warriors, Jamie Carpenter posted four strikeouts and no walked batters and gave up 10 hits with three runs scored for the win.

At bat for the Titans, Bailey Goodson was 3-for-3 with one RBI and a stolen base; Morgan Nance was 2-for-3 with a double; Berkley Mezzanotte was 2-for-3; Madison McKimmey was 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI; Megan Carter was 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI; and Cathrine Moren was 1-for-3.

At bat for the Warriors, Leah Stephens was 1-for-2 with a fielder’s choice; Sara Bass was 1-for-1 with one RBI; Samantha Carpenter was 1-for-3 with one RBI and a stolen base; Emilie Martin got to base on an error and a fielder’s choice with a stolen base; Madison King got to base on an error with one RBI; Ansley Hamer and Jamie Carpenter got to base on walks; and Hannah Walters got to base on a hit by a pitch.

In game two, the Titans jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and held this lead until the Warriors had 13 at bats in the fourth inning that produced eight runs and an 8-4 lead. The Titans managed one more run but the Warriors held on for the 8-5 win.

On the Mound for the Titans, Nance posted two strikeouts, sent four batters to base on walks, and gave up six hits with eight runs scored for the loss.

For the Warriors, Jamie Carpenter posted two strikeouts with one walked batter and allowed five hits with five runs for the win.

At bat for the Titans, Nance was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI; Mezzanotte was 1-for-2, getting to base on an error with two RBI; Ales Goodson was 1-for-3; and McKimmey was 1-for-2.

For the Warriors, Hamer was 2-for-3 with a stolen base; Martin was 1-for-3 with a fielder’s choice and two RBI; Stephens was 1-for-2 with a walk; King was 1-for-3; Samantha Carpenter got to base on an error and a walk with one RBI; Jamie Carpenter and Walters got to base on walks; and Myra Bracey made it to base on a hit by a pitch.
