Lady Wildcats Advance in Playoffs

Dillon’s Lady Wildcats earned a 77-27 win over the Andrews Yellow Jackets on Tuesday night in the first round of the girls Class 2A state basketball playoffs.

Dillon jumped out to a 23-4 lead in the first quarter and was ahead 43-9 at the half. The Lady Cats returned from the break to outscore Andrews 22-7, and held off the Yellow Jackets 12-11 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Khamele Manning and Tejah Breeden each scored 12 points to lead the Lady Wildcats in the win. Shar’Asia Samuel and Kendra McLeod added 11 points each, and Da’Kerhia Samuel earned 10. Cali McRae scored eight; Adriana McCollum, 7; A’Doshia Graves, 3; and Jelissa Fentzlaff, 2.

Alexis Gaskins scored 10 points to lead the Yellow Jackets in the effort. Zanaviya Deas added six points, and White and McNair each added five.

Dillon improved to 22-3 overall as they head into the second round of playoffs to host the Silver Bluff Bulldogs on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.

The Bulldogs defeated Battery Creek 41-33 on Tuesday night to advance. Silver Bluff has a 17-5 record and finished second in Region 5-2A. The Lady Bulldogs are led by Morgan Fair and Ashanti Brown, each averaging 13 points per game. Kippen Wallace leads the team in rebounds with 173, and has 13 blocks to her credit while averaging 10 points per game.

Also in the lower state bracket, Whale Branch defeated Wade Hampton 55-47 and will travel to Kingstree on Friday. Kingstree defeated Marion 68-33 in the first round.

Bishop England will host Lake Marion in the second round after the Battling Bishops eliminated Edisto 87-17. Lake Marion downed Waccamaw 37-19 to advance.

Mullins also advanced, defeating Lee Central 85-59 in the first round. The Lady Auctioneers will face the winner of the Ridgeland-Hardeeville/Academic Magnet game on Friday night.

Most of the upper state games were postponed until Wednesday night due to the winter conditions.
