Dillon Christian’s Price Signs with Campbell

Matthew Price signed to play football with Campbell University on Wednesday.

Dillon Christian School’s Matthew Price has signed on to play football for Campbell University next season.

Price began playing football in fifth grade when he was about ten years old. He was inspired to play by his brother, Phillip.

Price plays on both the offensive and defensive line and was an All-Region and All-State football selection. He was also chosen to play in the SCISA All Star game.

He also plays basketball and was a member of the Warriors speed and strength team, which won the SCISA state title in 2013 and finished as state runner-up in 2014.

Although he received offers from other schools such as Newberry College, Price said he chose Campbell University because they push their players.

“They want their players as good as they can be,” he said, “and I want to be as good as I can be.”

He says he plans to carry his work ethic to the college level where he wants to major in exercise science.

Matthew’s parents, Ruth and Phil Price, said they were very proud of him.

“He has worked very hard and it is gratifying to see him rewarded with this opportunity at Campbell,” his father said. “He has always been fun to watch and I pray for his continued success.”

“Matthew has never been afraid to work hard,” his mother said, “and his accomplishments on and off the field speak to that work ethic. He is a smart, strong player who understands the game and these characteristics have made him an incredible team leader who can be depended on.”

Dillon Christian School’s Athletic Director and head coach Christian Wolfe also had high praise for Price.

“Matthew is an excellent student and just a good kid to be around. He is a leader on the field, in the locker room, and in the classroom,” Coach Wolfe said. “He along with the other seniors has helped turn this program back into an annual contender for the region and state championships.

“Matthew is the epitome of what a football player should be. He gives maximum effort on every snap. He could and sometimes did help run practice drills. We are so excited about Matthew’s decision to attend Campbell University and are expecting big things from him as he continues his football career. He will be a great player at Campbell University because he will go up there and work extremely hard and do what he needs to in order to earn a starting position and make the team better.

“Matthew will be sorely missed here at Dillon Christian,” he added, “but he has left a great legacy that I hope the underclassmen will carry on.”
