Lady Wildcats Remain Second in State Basketball Rankings

Dillon’s Lady Wildcats held on to second place in the February 11 South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association polls for Class AA girls basketball.

The Lady Wildcats were again ranked just behind 2013 lower state champs Bishop England. Mullins was ranked third, followed by Andrew Jackson, Fairfield Central, Lake City, Pendleton, Kingstree, Newberry, and Ninety-Six.

The Dillon girls are one win away from a perfect regular season. They were scheduled to travel to Waccamaw on Monday night to face the Warriors before heading to the start of playoffs on Thursday. The Lady Wildcats already clinched the Region 8-2A title and will have a home court advantage throughout the playoffs.

In Class A girls basketball, Timmonsville topped the list, followed by Whale Branch, Carvers Bay, Baptist Hill, and Ridge Spring-Monetta. Hemingway was ranked sixth, and Cross, Denmark-Olar, Wagener-Salley, and St. Joseph’s rounded out the top 10.

In Class 3A, Orangeburg-Wilkinson topped the list, and in 4A, Dorman was ranked number one.

In the boys’ polls, Lake Marion topped the list for Class 2A, followed by Keenan, Indian Land, and Newberry. Mullins was ranked fifth, with Ridgeland/Hardeeville, Fairfield Central, Cheraw, Lake City, and Crescent filling out the list.

In Class A, Whale Branch was on top of the ranking, followed by St. Joseph’s, Fox Creek, Calhoun Falls, and Great Falls. Johnsonville was ranked sixth in the state, with Southside Christian, Greenville Tech, and CA Johnson following. Hemingway rounded out the rankings in tenth.

In Class 3A boys, Myrtle Beach topped the list, with Darlington ranked fifth, and in Class 4A, Irmo took first place.
