Lady Vikings Split with Bruins

Latta’s Lady Vikings split a double-header with South Florence in non-conference varsity softball action in Florence on Monday.

In game one, the Vikings took a 1-0 win, scoring the only run of the game in the top of the first inning.

Anna Rogers picked up the win on the mound, pitching five innings for two hits, one walk, and eight outs.
Sierra Pate took the loss for the Bruins, pitching five innings for three hits, one run, one walk, and two outs.

Madison Owens went 2-for-2 to lead Latta, which had three hits in the win. South Florence had two hits and two errors.

In game two, Latta and South Florence each added a run in the first inning, but the Lady Bruins pulled ahead with two runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 3-1. South Florence added seven runs in the third to take a 10-1 lead, and Latta could only muster three more runs in the fourth as they fell 10-4.

Kaylee Weaver got the win for South florence, pitching five innings for five hits, four runs, four earned runs, four walks, and one out. Tori Grimsley took the loss for Latta, pitching 2.33 innings for five hits, 10 runs, six earned runs, four walks, and four outs.

Mandy Harper went 3-for-3 to lead the Bruins and Ashlyn Flowers went 2-for-3. Kaylee Weaver went 1-for-2 as the Bruins picked up seven hits in the win.

Latta had five hits and four errors in the loss.

Latta’s overall record improved to 9-10, while their record in Region 8-A remains 4-2. The Lady Vikings were ranked ninth in the state in the most recent Class A softball coaches poll. South Florence is now 15-8 overall.

The Lady Vikings were scheduled to be at Green Sea-Floyds on Wednesday and will be at Lake View on Friday night for their final region game of the season. Make plans to attend to support our local teams! On Monday, April 22, Latta will wrap up the regular season with a double-header in Darlington. District playoffs are set to begin on Thursday, April 25.
