The Lake View High School Lady Wild Gators, aided by 11 hits and seven errors, downed the Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors 15-0 Tuesday in Lake View.

It has been three years since these two teams last played each other and although the Warriors have never won in softball, it was always a game that the players looked forward too. The Wild Gators always demonstrate first rate sportsmanship and the fans make the Warriors feel like they are at home. The Wild Gators, now 6-1 on the season, are loaded with talent and well coached by Brandy and James Huggins and should make a strong run in post season play this season.

The first inning ended with no score but the Wild Gators got hot at bat in the second inning and took a 6-0 lead. The Lady Gators added five runs in the third inning, increasing their lead to 11-0 and added four runs in the fourth inning to end the game on the mercy rule at 15-0.

Morgan Herlong took the mound for the Wild Gators, posting five strikeouts with no walked batters while allowing two hits with no runs scored for the win.

The Warriors’ Makalai Sweat beats the throw to first base.

For the Warriors, Jamie Carpenter posted a strikeout, allowed seven hits with one walked batter and two batters hit by a pitch, and gave up 11 runs in three innings for the loss. Makalai Sweat relieved in the fourth inning for her first try in varsity pitching, giving up four hits and four runs in the inning.

Numerous errors and a weak showing at bat continue to plague the Warriors. At bat for the Warriors, Lauren Lee was 1-for-2 and Sarah Fitzgibbon was 1-for-2 with Makalai Sweat getting to base on an error. Fitzgibbon, Lee, Carpenter, Sweat and Kathryn Brown gave good efforts in the field.

At bat for Lake View, Morgan Herlong was 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI; Amber Locklear was 2-for-3 with three RBI; Marissa Tyndall was 2-for-2, also getting to base on a walk and hit by pitch; Kateland Cox was 2-for-3, also getting to base on error with a RBI; Madison Mathews was 1-for-2 with a double and on base with an error; Ally Spivey was 1-for-3 and on base by error with a RBI; Ashley Rogers got to base on two errors with a RBI; Chelsea Spivey got to base on a hit by pitch and hit into a fielder’s choice with a RBI; Kayla Sanderson got to base on two errors and a walk with three RBI; Fontae Owens hit into a fielder’s choice, adding a RBI; and Ashlyn Arnette made it to base on a walk.

The Warriors will play at home on Friday when they are scheduled to host Pee Dee Academy at 5:00 pm.

Lake View was scheduled to travel to Marion on Wednesday and will host Hannah-Pamplico on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
