Wildcats Fall to Falcons, Edge Monarchs

The Dillon Wildcats fell 6-4 to the Darlington Falcons on Wednesday but edged Manning 4-3 in 10 innings on Thursday night in baseball action.

Darlington took a 4-0 lead in the first inning on Wednesday night and added a fifth run in the top of the second. Dillon scored two in the bottom of the inning, but neither could score in the third or fourth. The Falcons added one run in the top of the fifth, and Dillon crossed home twice in the bottom of the inning ,but the Wildcats couldn’t send another runner home, allowing Darlington to maintain the 6-4 win.

Kam Dixon picked up the win on the mound, pitching five innings for four outs, nine hits, and three walks. Henry Davis got the save, pitching two innings for one hit and two outs.

Patrick Herring took the loss for Dillon, pitching four innings for five hits and four walks.

Jalen Durant hit a grand slam in the first inning to lead Darlington at bat, picking up four RBI as he went 1-for-3. Henry Davis went 1-for-2; Hayes Goodson went 1-for-3 with one RBI; and Andre Hooks and Darvia Dubose each went 1-for-3.

Thomas Grossetti led Dillon at bat, going 3-for-4, and Weston Bailey went 2-for-3 for the Wildcats.

On Thursday, Dillon edged Manning 4-3 in 10 innings with the Wildcats scoring on a wild pitch for the win.

Duncan Callahan pitched six innings for the Wildcats, striking out 12 with five hits and three runs. Weston Bailey got the save, pitching four innings for four outs.

Patrick Herring led the Wildcats with two home runs, picking up three RBI on three hits.

The Wildcats are now 1-1 in the regular season as they prepare to host Mullins tonight at 6:30 p.m. to open region play.

On Friday, Dillon will be at Loris and on Tuesday, March 19, the Wildcats will be back home to host Waccamaw at 6:30 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our local teams!
