Gilchrist Makes Drum Major, Studies Abroad

Trevor Gilchrist

This fall, Trevor Gilchrist of Lake View made Drum Major in the University of South Carolina Band.

Trevor graduated from Lake View High School in 2009. As a Wild Gator, he played Sousaphone in the marching band, concert band, and in the Dillon County Honor band.

Trevor is now a sophomore at USC, majoring in Advertising with a minor in Psychology. This year marked his second year with the Carolina Band and his first year as Drum Major. The drum major is the leader of the marching band, and is responsible for leading practices and performances of the band.

In addition to his music and studies, Trevor also writes for the USC Viewpoints paper. According to his mother, he even caused a bit of a stir with his article titled “High School Fails to Prep for College” in which he discussed some of the challenges that students from underfunded and understaffed schools face in college.

Currently, Trevor is studying abroad in Ireland through an exchange program at USC. He is scheduled to graduate in 2013.
