Lady Gators Pick Up Wins from Green Sea, Creek Bridge

Lake View’s Lady Gators have had a mixed season so far, but that season improved last week with a pair of wins over Green Sea-Floyds and Creek Bridge.

The Lady Gators traveled to Creek Bridge on Friday, January 14, and managed to bring home a 44-32 win over the Warriors.

Creek Bridge led the first quarter 10-7, but Lake View outscored them in the remaining three, 14-5, 11-10, and 12-7, to secure the win.

Jaquana Davis led the Wild Gators with a team-high 22 points, making eight rebounds, three steals and three blocks.

Chessie Miller added 11 points to the win, making six rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Tranya Ford, Pamela Butler, and Amber Locklear each made two points, with Butler also making three steals, one rebound, and an assist. Ford made five steals, one block, and one assist. Zaria Washington and Tomeka Green each contributed one point.

Next up the Gators hosted Hemingway on Tuesday, January 18, and fell the Tigers 54-38.

Hemingway won the first quarter 14-5 and tied with Lake View in the second, 12-12. Lake View claimed the third 16-11, but the Tigers overwhelmed them, 17-5, in the fourth to secure the win by 16 points.

The Gators were led by Tranya Ford with a team-high 13 points and Jaquana Davis with 11. Davis had seven total rebounds, five steals, two blocks and two assists, and Ford made two steals.

Chessie Miller added ten points for the Lady Gators, and made five rebounds, three steals and one assist. Tiffany Waters made three points, two rebounds, and one steal, and Pamela Butler contributed one point for Lake View. Tomeka Green made two steals for the Lady Gators.

On Friday, January 21, the ladies hit the road again to face Green Sea-Floyds. They overpowered the Trojans 47-26, dominating all but the last quarter.

Lake View ended the first quarter 18-4, and claimed the second 11-8 to put them up 29-12 at half time. They took the third 10-2, and though the Trojans rallied 12-8 in the fourth, it wasn’t enough to close the 21-point gap that secured the win for Lake View.

Jaquana Davis led the Gators with a game-high 28 points, eight rebounds, seven steals, and an assist. Chessie Miller added eight points to the win, making six rebounds and a steal for Lake View.

Also scoring were Tranya Ford, 3; Tiffany Waters, 2; Jessica Munos, 2; Tomeka Green, 2; Taylor Wallace, 1; and Pamela Butler, 1. Munos also had four rebounds, and Ford and Butler made three rebounds each, with Ford making four steals and two assists and Butler making five steals.

Waters made two rebounds, three assists, and one steal, and Amber Locklear, Taylor Wallace, Tomeka Green, and Zaria Washington each picked up a rebound.

The week’s action left the Lady Gators’ record at 4-7 overall and 4-3 in Region 8-A.

Next up, they were scheduled to take on Johnsonville Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. before traveling to Carvers Bay on Friday, January 28. Johnsonville has a 10-3 record this season, 5-1 in the region, while Carvers Bay is 0-14.

Meanwhile, Lake View’s boys team fell to Creek Bridge 65-33 on Friday, January 14, before being crushed by Green Sea-Floyds 65-43 on Friday, January 21. Scores from their game against Hemingway were not immediately available.
