William Bracey Huggins

Born in Dillon County, January 19, 1927, he was the son of the late Lonnie Bruce Huggins and  Mabel Bracey Huggins.  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was elder emeritus, veteran of World War II and the Korean War, retired Command Sergeant Major with the South Carolina Army National Guard, and was a member of Mackey Lodge #77 AFM.  Mr. Huggins was a former member of the Scottish Rite and was a former Shriner, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and was a member and past commander of the American Legion.  He was a life member of the South Carolina Army National Guard Association.  Mr. Huggins was one of the leaders in fund raising for and completion of the Dillon County Veterans Memorial Monument and the sign designating Veterans Square.  He was a retired Dillon County Assessor, Dillon County Citizen of the Year 1990, first Mackey Lodge #77 Mason of the year, Dillon County Veteran of the Year 1998, he was awarded twenty four military decorations and awards to include the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals for Combat Valor and the prestigious Combat Infantry Badge.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Wiggins Huggins of Dillon; sons, William Donald Huggins and his wife Anita of Wayne, New Jersey and Tony Craig Huggins of Dillon; 5 grandchildren,  3 step-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Lonny Bruce Huggins of Myrtle Beach;  sisters, Betty Grice of Dillon, Janet Bethea of Little Rock, and Norma Stidham of Florence.
