Conyers Joins Coalition Of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions

Navy Lt. Shelley Conyers, whose husband, Andre, is the son of Denise Conyers of Dillon, S. C. and Junior Blakley, of Dillon, and fellow Sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) formed a Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD) committee.

Sales Tax Holiday Begins August 3rd

The South Carolina Retail Association (SCRA) (http://www.scretail.org/) has announced that the 12th annual Sales Tax Holiday will run from Friday, Aug. 3 at 12:01 a.m. through Sunday, Aug. 5 at 11:59 p.m.

Trial Coverage Part II: The State v. Robert Lee Nelson

The trial of Robert Lee Nelson, Jr., who was charged in the December 2009 robberies and deaths of Walter and Mary Swaner, ended on Friday evening with the jury deadlocked on the two murder charges, but finding Nelson guilty of burglary first degree, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and two armed robbery charges.

Unemployment Rate Increases

South Carolina’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 9.4 percent in June from 9.1 percent in May. This is the second consecutive rise in the rate, but is well below the June 2011 rate of 10.5 percent.

National Night Out Articles Welcomed

Organizations, etc. holding National Night Out events may submit a brief news article about their upcoming event no later than 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31 for the Thursday, August 2nd issue and no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, August 3rd for the Tuesday, August 7th issue.
