Proud Of Latta
To The Editor:
Again, I was proud of the Town of Latta best Sunday afternoon, August 13th.
Coming home from Church Bible Study, I came through Main Street Latta and saw activities and people and the huge flag flying over Main Street. Then it occurred to me that this was probably in honor of our Sheriff Pernell on his way to his final resting place at Rest Haven.
I turned around and parked my car, and, in a few minutes, vehicles and sirens began coming; motorcycle, the ambulances, Sheriff’s vehicles from all over – Dillon, Marion, Horry, Georgetown, Marlboro and other counties probably, and also fire trucks, and first responders, the works. I felt very humble and grateful that the Town fathers saw fit to honor our sheriff in this way, and I was very thankful that I took time earlier to write a note to Mrs. Cynthia expressing my sympathy and sharing with her my thought that she would never know how much good our sheriff had done for Dillon County and all of us during his short time in office.
