Chicken Bog Benefit To Be Held For Carl Edwards On May 25th

A Chicken Bog Benefit will be held for Carl Edwards sponsored by Cooks for Christ.
Carl Edwards is 78 years old and lives in Latta. He is the father of three children: Shelley, Carla, and Holly and is “DeDe” to six grandchildren and one great-grand! He worked in Air Gas sales in the Florence area for over 40 years. Carl is a member of Latta Baptist Church and was an involved and active member of the community until two years ago. Carl had quadruple bypass surgery in May of 2021, and though the surgery itself was successful, he suffered multiple strokes, post op, while in recovery. Hopeful that he could overcome the effects of the strokes, he spent months at Encompass & Bethea Rehabilitation. Carl was unable to progress as expected and was sent home to continue rehabilitation. With no improvement, and still looking for answers, he began transfusions in October 2022, which are commonly used to treat Guillain Barre Syndrome. Sadly, his physical capabilities have not improved after 6 treatments and he now requires 24/7 care. Carl is 100% bedridden and requires assistance for any and all daily functions. Prior to his bypass surgery, he was the primary caregiver for his wife, Gayle, of 56 years, who passed in December of 2021 from Alzheimer’s disease. Cooks for Christ is raising funds to help the family with the monetary stress of 24/7 care.
Carl’s benefit will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the West Florence Fire Station located at 3379 Pine Needles Road in Florence. Meals will be served from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Drive-thru lanes will be open for your convenience and a bake sale will be held all day. Plates are $10.00 each. Lunch and dinner can be delivered for orders of seven or more plates. The menu consists of chicken bog, green beans, slaw, and bread. Please make checks payable to Carl Edwards Medical Fund. There will be a substation at Latta Baptist Church for ticket holders. Tickets are ONLY SOLD for pickup at Latta Baptist from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. for lunch and 4:30-6:00 p.m. for supper.
