PHOTO GALLERY: Latta Vikings Advance With Win Over Bethune Bowman

The Latta Vikings advanced in the A Region 6 with an 11-1 win in the run-ruled 5-inning game over Bethune-Bowman in varsity baseball played in Latta on Tuesday, May 2.
Eli Henderson began on the mound for the Latta Vikings. He faced only 4 batters in the first inning retiring 2 of those who went down swinging.
Bethune-Bowman’s #1 began on the mound. After Latta’s lead-off guy went down swinging, Seth Minshew garnered a walk and moved to second on a balk. Collin Minshew also managed a walk. Seth Minshew stole third. Justin Stutler drove a grounder up the middle for a single and 2 rbi. Stutler stole second prior to a fly out to deep sort by Ethan Lee. Mason Weatherford picked up a walk. On a passed ball, both runners advanced to the next base. Stutler stole home. Eli Henderson also walked. Eli Jones hit 1 to short center for a single and a rbi. Henderson stole second. Fisher Richardson walked to load the bases. Nick Lane walked, and a run scored. Latta scored a run on a passed ball. Seth Minshew walked to once again load the bases. Collin Minshew drove one down the third base line for a double and 2 rbi. Latta’s third out came on a strike out. However, Latta had placed 8 runs onto the scoreboard.
Bethune-Bowman was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the second inning.
Latta added 2 runs in the bottom of the second inning to go up 10-0.
Luke Haselden took over the pitching chore in the top of the third inning. After 2 batters were retired with strike outs, Bethune-Bowman’s #1 garnered a walk. Bethune-Bowman’s #12 hit a fly to left and ended up on second with #1 on third. With 2 strikes and 3 balls on #9 for Bethune-Bowman, a ball 4 that got passed the catcher allowed a run. Bethune-Bowman was on the scoreboard. The next batter went down watching for strike out number 3.
In the bottom of the third inning, Latta scored the final run of the game as no one scored though the top of the fifth inning.
Latta will travel to St. John’s of John’s Island (Charleston) today, Thursday, May 4, at 7:00 p.m.
