Latta Vikings Embarking On New Season

The Latta Vikings varsity football team under the direction of Coach Brandon Iseman won 5 games and lost 5 games during last season.
This season Coach Iseman will be in his fifth year as head coach for the Latta Vikings varsity squad. Prior to coming to Latta he served as a head coach for 2 years and has been coaching for 9 years.
Coaching staff members returning from last year include Coach Iseman, Chris German, Donald Cribb, Robert McIntyre, and Courtney Page. Three new members have been added: Alex Lusk will be the defensive coordinator, Matt Caulder will be the wide receivers and defensive backs coach, and Jeremy Oxendine willl be the defensive backs and wide receivers coach.
The team was very committed to the off-season conditioning, and they have been excited about practice and everything related to football. Latta continues to improve and anxiously awaits the start of the football season.
Latta lost 15 players from last year’s squad. However, Latta possesses a good group of underclassmen, and they work hard each day. Of course, it will be difficult to fill the quarterback position vacated by a 3-year starter. Also, the loss of 3-year starters as wide receivers and defensive backs will be another challenge for the coaching staff.
The coaching staff stresses the importance of improvement each day from each member of the team in each facet of the game.
“We are looking for more depth at every position,” stated Coach Iseman. “We will take one week at a time. So, whoever is our next opponent will be our toughest one.”
Latta has a great deal of depth at the offensive and defensive linemen, line backers, and running back positions but lacks experience in wide receivers and defensive backs.
“We expect to get better each day. That is our goal,” quipped Coach Iseman.
Latta opens the regular season against Mullins in Latta on Friday, August 23, at 7:30 p.m.
