Fifth Week Of PTI Held

Submitted by Linda Gonzales Battle
Our fifth week PTI (Pre Trial Intervention) meeting was held on Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Riverdale Community Center.
The purpose of this meeting is to sponsor a program by the Solicitor’s office called PTI, which consists of “First Time Offenders” who have been charged with non-violent crimes. This is an eight week program that consists of various speakers who share their ideas. In these sessions, there is a question and answer session.
The meeting was opened by Rev. Michael Battle, Chaplain, with prayer. He talked about recognizing who God is, our Creator, Genesis 1:1, and what He can and will do for us. A very present help in time of trouble, (Psalm 46:1). You need to recognize that you are in a time-out program as well (PTI). This will allow you to look at your life now as an adult and the direction you are going. Also keep in mind that everyone is not your friend. But, at the same time remember that we all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, (Romans 3:23). Rev. Battle told the participants to ask themselves, “Where do I go from here, here after being given the second chance?” (John 3:16) Now this rebirth, we are ready to show that difference, by the renewing of our minds. New goals are being set and talked about because of our new appetites we have. Most importantly, remember “I can do all things through Christ whom strengthens me.” (Phillipians 4:13).
By this we can set the stage for our sisters, brothers, mother, father and our loved ones. In closing, Rev. Battle stated that just as God so loved the world, we the Committee of Concerned Citizens also love you. We take this time to help you with your endeavors. He introduced the speakers.
There was one graduate, which he introduced. They graduate gave a 250 plus words essay, which was well received. He was very appreciative to the staff and the speakers for their continual support. Rev. Battle gave him his certificate and congratulated him.
Rev. Johnny Page, Mt. Sinai Church, reiterated some of the graduate comments. He told him to reach for the starts and don’t look back. He stated that God is a good and timely God. He protects and guides us. Sometimes there are things we cannot control what happens to us. But God will come and pick us up.
