Libby’s Recipes: Jezebel Jelly, Orange Slice Candy Cake

Both of these recipes are from my sister. The jelly she makes and the cake is a specialty of one of her friends.

Jezebel Jelly

1 small jar pineapple preserves
1 small jar apple jelly
1 regular jar horseradish
1 teaspoon hot mustard

Mix all well. You may pour over a block of cream cheese and serve with crackers. This is also good as an accent for pork or ham. And I know you will be serving ham soon.
Orange Slice Candy Cake2 sticks butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
3-1/2 cups plain flour, divided
1 teaspoon rum flavoring
1 pound orange candy slices, chopped
1 box pitted dates, chopped
1 small can flaked coconut
2 cups chopped nuts
1 can frozen orange juice, undiluted
1 cup powdered sugar

Cream butter and sugar. Add beaten eggs, one at a time. Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add to creamed mixture alternately with 2-1/2 cups of the flour. Stir after each addition. Add rum flavoring.
Sift remaining cu of flour over the chopped dates, candy, and nuts. Mix well, then fold into cake mixture. Pour batter into greased and floured tube pan.
Bake at 300 degrees for 3 hours. Mix orange juice and powdered sugar and pour over hot cake while cake is still in pan. Cool cake thoroughly before removing from pan.
