Local Group Goes On Mission Trip To Cuba

Rev. James Smith of East Dillon Baptist Church, John Henry Williams of First Baptist Church Dillon, Ben Jackson and Dr. James Orr, both of Pyerian Baptist of Floyd Dale recently returned from Baracoa and Holgúin, Cuba after an eight day trip.

They were part of a larger team of ten persons from South Carolina and Florida. They flew into Holgúin, a city of about 300,000 in eastern Cuba and then endured an 8 hour bus ride through the country and mountains on Eastern Cuba to reach Baracoa.
Here they did training with about forty-five church leaders, did street evangelism and preached in numerous house churches.
While in Baracoa 102 persons came to know Jesus Christ as their Savior. Many others were ministered to as both spiritual and physical needs were met.
A special needs child was provided with a new wheel chair and many sick were prayed for. Special services were held for both children’s and women’s ministries. While in Baracoa 9 were baptized in the Rio Miel (Honey River), including team member Ben Jackson, who was baptized by his pastor, Dr. James Orr
This was only the second time a group from Campo de Cristo ministries has worked in Baracoa.
Baracoa was one of the first places that Columbus landed in the New World and is one of the oldest cities in the Western Hemisphere. From here the team went to Holgúin for two days. Again they engaged in street ministries in two of the many parks in the city. The evening before leaving they went to an apartment complex where a woman had opened her doors for prayer. She accepted Christ that evening and a new church was also established in her apartment. This was a first in the Holgúin area, as the ministry has been looking for a foothold into this area. Praise Jesus.

A highlight was a day trip to the Yumury River and Canyon. This included a boat ride up the river from the Caribbean and a hike along the dry river bed when the water became too shallow for the boats. The team returned safely a day late after lengthy weather delays in Cuba due to heavy rains.
Please continue to pray for the people of Cuba.
