Hickory Ridge, N.C., came from behind to defeat the Latta Lady Vikings 5-4 in varsity softball action in the Spring Swing Tournament held in Cheraw on Monday, March 28.
Hickory Ridge’s Meagan Garrison hit a three-run home run, and Lindsey Powell connected a two-run single in the rally in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Latta picked up 4 runs in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead.
Latta’s Kyra Grant was perfect in her 3 trips to the plate as she connected for 3 hits including a double and a rbi.
Macy Hyatt picked up 2 hits in her 3 trips to the plate and 2 rbi while Genesis Anderson was 1 for 3 with a rbi.
Arica Gandy was credited with the loss. She pitched 4 innings, allowed 6 hits, 5 runs of which 3 were earned, walked 2, and struck out 1.
Latta is now 8-5 on the season.

The Latta Lady Vikings defeated McBee 3-2 in varsity softball action on Monday, March 28, in the Spring Swing Tournament in Cheraw.
Latta’s Arica Gandy pitched the complete game and allowed 4 hits, 2 runs of which 1 was earned, struck out 1, and walked one.
McBee scored first in the top of the third inning but Latta knotted the score at 1 in the bottom of the inning. In the top of the sixth inning McBee scored another run to take the lead 2-1 but the Latta Vikings scored 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to take the victory.
Latta’s Macy Hyatt had 2 hits in 3 trips to the plate.
She picked up 1 rbi in the win. Kaleigh Caulder got a double in her 2 at-bats.

The Latta Vikings’ Brandy Williamson pitched 5 shut-out innings and struck out 4 and walked 2 to lead the Vikings to a 3-0 victory in the Spring Swing Tournament held in Cheraw on Tuesday, March 29.
Latta took an early lead in the game as Latta picked up a run in the bottom of the first inning. Latta managed to get 2 runs in the bottom of the 4 inning and never trailed in the game.
McBee was held to one hit in the game. McBee did not commit an error in the game
Latta garnered 6 hits and committed 1 error.
Madison Owens was perfect at the plate with 2 hits in 2 trips for the Vikings. Genesis Anderson was also perfect garnering 1 hit and a rbi in 1 at-bat. Kaleigh Caulder picked up 1 hit and a rbi in 2 trips to the plate.
The Latta Vikings will travel to Creek Bridge on Tuesday, April 5, at 5:30 p.m.

The Latta Vikings’ Brandy Williamson pitched a complete game and defeated Lakewood 7 to 1 on Tuesday, March 29, in the Spring Swing Tournament held in Cheraw. She allowed 1 run on 1 hit and struck out 6.
Lakewood scored a run in the top of the first inning and took an early lead. However, Latta scored 7 runs in a very productive bottom half of the first inning. Each team committed an error in the game.
Deanna Tanner garnered 2 hits including a double and 2 rbi in her 2 at-bats for Latta. Macy Hyatt had 2 doubles and 2 rbi in her 3 trips to the plate. Madison Owens had a double and a rbi in her 2 at-bats while Camryn Sawyer had a double and a rbi in her 3 trips to the plate while Brandy Williams garnered 1 hit and 2 rbi in her 3 at-bats for the Vikings.

Malaya Black was perfect at the plate with 2 hits including a double and 3 rbi in 2 trips to the plate for Hickory Ridge. Lindsey Powell connected for a double and a rbi in 3 at-bats.
The Vikings’ Macy Hyatt connected for 2 hits in 3 trips to the plate while Camryn Sawyer garnered a double in 2 at-bats.
